Fire Safety

Fire safety encompasses a variety of concepts related to code enforcement, public education and criminal law enforcement.

The Rochester Fire Department is committed to working with all City inspectional services to ensure that fire-safety and other safety codes are maintained within all structures and exterior mechanical operations where open flame or fuel systems are used. The Department strives to educate homeowners, business owners, school children and neighborhood organizations about safe use of fire. The Department informs people about necessary fire survival skills such as installation of smoke detectors, practicing escape plans, juvenile fire setter awareness and the proper use and maintenance of mechanical equipment.

The Department's Arson Task Force combats the criminal act of arson. This concept unites the authorities of the Fire and Police departments with the District Attorney’s Office and other state and federal agencies.
