Fire Dept. Members with school kidsEach of the 16 fire stations has developed a relationship with a neighborhood school.

The captain of each station met with the principal and teachers and developed strategies designed to raise awareness of fire safety issues and provide students with role models and mentors.

For example, firefighters from Quint/Midi 3 work with students from School No. 12 on improving their reading skills. The firefighter's activities have been written in articles with the Democrat and Chronicle and also in the school's newsletter.

The firefighters recently presented certificates of achievement to the students involved in the program.
