or Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Fire
Safety Smoke House
The
Community Relations and Education
Unit conducts fire safety presentations
for anyone who makes a request, as
long as the presentations are conducted
in the City of Rochester. Requests
normally come from schools, day care
centers residential facilities, businesses,
community events, recreation centers,
and various other sites as requested.
We
also participate in health fairs,
festivals, neighborhood events, community
gatherings and church socials.
Members
of the Community Relations and Education
Unit design Fire Safety Presentations
for all ages, groups, or situations.

Smoke
Detector Program
Since
the start of the Smoke Dectector Program
in 1999, the Community Relations and
Education Unit has installed over
3000 smoke alarms, 1000 batteries,
750 carbon monoxide detectors and
32 silent smoke alarms (for the hearing
impaired.)
The
Community Relations and Education
Unit conducts post-fire neighborhood
canvassing by going door-to-door to
check if city residents in that neighborhood
have active smoke alarms and carbon
monoxide detectors. We install them
on an as-needed basis.
The
Community Relations and Education
Unit also take request from city residents
who need these items or assist in
installing or inspecting them.

Fire
Safety Smoke House
The
safety house, purchased and donated
to the City by Wegmans Food Markets
and Chase Pitkin, is a mobile classroom
with child sized rooms featuring real
life "safety hazards" that allow students
to safely experience the sights, sounds
and dangers associated with fire in
the home. It has been used at numerous
schools, churches, festival sites,
shopping areas and other community
venues to teach children and adults
