The Rochester Public Market Cookbooks

PublicMarket-page-header

The nonprofit Friends of the Rochester Public Market offer two beautiful City of Rochester Public Market cookbooks: Bringing the Market Home...Savoring the Seasons at the Rochester Public Market, and The Rochester Public Market: At the Heart of It All.

The full-color cookbooks celebrates the unique joy that is the shopping --and eating-- experience of the beloved Market. They are a veritable feast of favorite recipes shared by farmers, vendors, shoppers and renowned local chefs. All recipes feature foods from the Market.

Recipes follow the four seasons at the Market, starting with the first delicate fruits and veggies of spring, right through those hearty winter veggies we enjoy roasted or in soups. Uniquely flavoring the books are the stories and images that share the Market experience – the joy of fresh seasonal produce, meeting the farmers who grow our food, and preparing and sharing the recipes with friends and family.

Proceeds from these cookbooks directly support the operation of the Market Token Program, which enables customers to use their SNAP benefits to purchase fresh, healthy, local, affordable foods from the Market. Since 2008, many millions of dollars worth of SNAP benefits have been redeemed at the Market, making a huge impact on SNAP recipients' eating habits: Over 90% of Market Token Program participants surveyed report eating healthier. This program also substantially supports local growers, vendors, and businesses.

Cookbooks can be purchased at the white Market Token Center (behind the Market Office, the two-story brick house at the center of the grounds) on regular Market Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for $10 (including tax).

Generous support for the cookbook project was provided by the Greater Rochester Health Foundation and the Market District Business Association.
