News Release - Tim Horton’s Cuts Ribbon for Location in the City

City of Rochester

News Release

(June 9, 2009) -- Commissioner of Economic Development R. Carlos Carballada officially welcomed Tim Horton’s Coffee Shop to the Lyell Avenue commercial area today.

Robert and Judy DeGolier, owners of the restaurant at 1631 Lyell Ave., also own the store at 607 Jefferson Road and the Tim Horton’s kiosk inside the Tops at Panorama Plaza. Mr. DeGolier had been a Tim Horton’s store manager for more than 20 years in the Buffalo area. Three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. DeGolier decided to become owners and chose the Rochester region in which to grow their business. Tim Horton’s products are served fresh throughout the day and include coffee, baked good, breakfast items, sandwiches and soups. Tim Horton’s is the fourth largest quick-serve restaurant chain in North America, with 527 stores in the United States and 2,940 stores in Canada. Tim Horton’s coffee is roasted at a site on Mushroom Blvd. in Henrietta, which provides coffee to all 527 stores in the U.S., and 40 percent of the stores in Canada. Three local stores have recently begun serving products from Coldstone Creamery.

Commissioner Carballada said the Lyell Avenue store provides a much-needed convenience and service to this neighborhood and its businesses.

“The Lyell Avenue neighborhood is experiencing a long-awaited revitalization and we are pleased Tim Horton’s is a partner in this effort,” Commissioner Carballada said. “We know that this store will be successful and will result in more retail and service businesses coming to this neighborhood.”

The opening of this store provided 20 full and part time jobs at this location.

The DeGoliers said they chose the site for its combination of high traffic and a healthy mix of residential and business customers, which gives the 24-hour-location a steady stream of customers.

Jon Maurer, Tim Horton’s Regional Marketing Manager for New York State, said: “The site plays well to our market penetration plan in Rochester. Currently, in the Rochester market, we have 31 full-serve Tim Horton’s restaurants and 16 additional kiosks inside Tops Friendly Markets. Tim Horton’s is excited to be a part of the Lyell Avenue revitalization and proud to open a new restaurant in the city of Rochester.”
