Demolition Underway on Midtown Citizens Bank
Demolition of the Citizens Bank Building at the corner of East Main Street and South Clinton Avenue is now underway, representing another milestone in the progress of the Midtown Rochester Rising Project. Crews are presently removing portions of the southeast corner of the building and will work toward the west over the next several weeks. Midtown Rising demolition began in September of 2010 and is now about halfway complete. The B. Forman, Sheer and Wendy’s buildings have all been demolished.
“This demolition is a significant event for the Midtown Rising project,” said Acting Mayor Carballada. “It is the first major phase of the project that will be clearly visible from Main Street. Those in attendance at the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 12 will be afforded an excellent view of the work on the Citizens Bank building.”
Demolition of the Citizens Bank building will continue over the next several weeks, with additional time afterward for post-demolition debris removal. Citizens can get more information on the Midtown Rising project and view progress on the Citizen’s Bank demolition and work at www.cityofrochester.gov/midtown.
The Midtown Rising project is an ongoing redevelopment partnership that will re-position Rochester for its future. The goal of the project is to foster the revitalization of Rochester’s downtown core through major public and private investment in job creation and infrastructure development.
