City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, May 30, 2012) –– Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada joined Kevin Kelly, Executive Director, Rochester Technology Manufacturing Association, and Dixon Tool & Manufacturing President Robert J. Hyder III, for the official grand opening of the Dixon Tool & Manufacturing Inc. expansion at 240 Burrows St. Dixon Tool, which produces machine replacement and prototype parts, was previously located in the 5,200-square-foot building at 1203 Jay St.

“The City is pleased to celebrate the expansion and relocation of Dixon Tool & Manufacturing. Dixon Tool & Manufacturing is an example of successful economic development in our city,” said Commissioner Carballada.

Hyder purchased the 16,200-square-foot Burrows Street building for additional space to grow the company. The $330,000 expansion included the purchase and renovation of the building and the relocation from its previous location. The City of Rochester provided a $20,000 grant from its Building Renovation Program.

In March 2006, Hyder bought the former TA Dixon Tool & Die Inc. from and changed the name of the company to Dixon Tool & Manufacturing, Inc. to showcase a more diverse company and its broader scope of capabilities.

Dixon Tool also builds staging, assembly and inspection fixtures, provides die building and repair and has production machining capacity.

The company has grown to 14 employees with reported annual sales of $1.3 million in 2010. Three new jobs were added to the existing payroll as a result of the expansion with another three to five jobs expected to be added over the next few years.
