News Release - Rochester Metro Area Ranked 17th on the Top 20 List of Most Vibrant Arts Communities

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, July 24, 2018)– Southern Methodist University’s National Center for Arts Research (NCAR) has released its fourth annual Arts Vibrancy Index and ranks Rochester the 17th most vibrant art community among large cities. The Index provides rankings for over 900 communities in large, medium and small cities across the United States.

“The City of Rochester’s commitment to the arts has landed us on the NCAR’s list for the third time in four years and illustrates our dedication to our citizens and the arts community as a whole,” Mayor Warren said. “Rochester’s presence on the list makes our mission of creating more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our residents not just a statement, but a reality.”

The rankings are based on the per capita supply, demand and government support of the arts. Since Rochester is considered a large community, it had to compete with such cities as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City and Washington, D.C.
