City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018) — Mayor Lovely A. Warren announced today that the fourth-annual Bike-In Movie at the Market will take place Friday, Aug. 24 at the City of Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union St.

“Bike-In Movie at the Market is a fun way to bring family and friends together at one of Rochester’s favorite venues while also highlighting our city’s rapidly improving status as a Bicycle Friendly City,” said Mayor Warren. “This is a great complement to the many investments we are making to expand our bicycle infrastructure and encourage bicycle ridership. I want to thank the Rochester Cycling Alliance and the Rochester Bicycle Film Festival for helping us create yet another opportunity to remind people why it’s fun to live in or visit Rochester, which advances our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for our citizens.”

The event is co-sponsored by the Rochester Cycling Alliance and the Rochester Bicycle Film Festival. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to ride their bicycles to the Public Market and get to know members of the Rochester-area bicycle community while enjoying a free bicycle-related movie.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and the movie begins after it gets dark, about 9 p.m. This year’s movie is “Quicksilver,” starring Kevin Bacon as a failed stockbroker who finds redemption as a bicycle messenger. From 7 to 9 p.m., the event will feature a performances by Flower City Vaudeville and local musician Jackson Cavalier. Food and drink vendors will be available.

Cyclists can also register for the Public Market’s Bike Incentive/Reward Program for those who use their bicycles to get to and from regular Market days and Market special events (www.cityforochester.gov/biketomarket). Those who ride to the Bike-In Movie and register for this program can also sign in for that week’s drawing of Market Gift Tokens.

Attendees should bring a blanket for seating, wear a bike helmet while riding and bring good lights for the ride home in the dark.
