City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018) – Deputy Mayor Dr. Cedric Alexander, City Councilmember Elaine Spaull and State Senator Joseph Robach joined owner and designer Tanvi Asher today to celebrate the opening of Salty Boutique on Park Avenue.

“Since opening her first business on Park Avenue in 2012, Tanvi Asher has been a living example of the creative and entrepreneurial spirit that is thriving in Rochester,” said Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “Her success and the success of her businesses demonstrate that Rochester is a city that welcomes bold new ideas and rewards creativity, which bodes well for our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.”

“I am excited to open a shop that specializes in monochromatic solids in Southeast Rochester, where I’ve enjoyed meeting and engaging with so many wonderful customers with open hearts and discerning tastes over the past six years,” said Ms. Asher. “Returning to Park Avenue feels like a homecoming. I believe the reported demise of brick-and-mortar retail is grossly overstated and our stores and our staff can be a vehicle to truly engage with Rochester customers in a way that large retailers are not doing.”

Salty Boutique, 749 Park Ave., is a women’s clothing store that offers highly curated items of apparel primarily in black and white with pops of color and patterns. The store will offer clothing, footwear and accessories that have been hand-selected by Ms. Asher, who owns the Peppermint, a boutique that offers her own designs in the Culver Road Armory. Ms. Asher is an RIT graduate who earned a Masters of Fine Arts in industrial design after completing a thesis on wearable textile shelters. Ms. Asher first opened Peppermint in 2012 on Park Avenue near Meigs Street before relocating to the Armory in 2016.

Salty Boutique employs one full-time and three part-time employees and expects to create three more part-time jobs within three years. Ms. Asher seeks to foster a workplace atmosphere where employees view their jobs as a “formative experience where employees will be changed for the better and to grow as individuals during their time with the organization.”

The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
