News Release - Rochester Animal Services Selected for Nationally Renowned Pet Owner Support Program

City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren is proud to announce that Rochester Animal Services has been chosen to be an official Pets for Life (PFL) Mentorship Program and will begin providing free veterinary resources and supplies to pet owners in zip code 14605 through door-to-door community outreach. Pets for Life (PFL), a program of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), is a social justice driven approach to creating access to pet services in underserved communities where such resources are limited or non-existent.

“Pets can be such an important part of a family,” said Mayor Warren. “Helping pet owners with support services such as spay and neuter, basic veterinary wellness care and pet supplies makes our communities stronger and supports our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities for all.”

PFL provides grants, in-depth training and ongoing guidance to local organizations across the United States, so they have the support needed to sustain the outreach program long term. With an estimated 23 million pets and 45 million people living in poverty across the country, PFL addresses the critical lack of available and affordable resources in underserved communities.
