City of Rochester
News Release
(Monday, January 21, 2019) – With freezing temperatures
and a wind chill advisory in effect, Mayor Lovely Warren is asking residents to
protect themselves, and look out for one another, through the extreme cold.
“Rochester is known as a compassionate, caring city, and
no time is this more obvious than in challenging weather conditions,” Mayor
Warren said. “I would like to thank
everyone who has taken the time to check in on their neighbors or volunteer in
their community, providing warmth to each other through these very cold
temperatures.”
“I also want to continue to recognize our plow operators,
contractors, environmental services crews and first responders, some of whom
have been working nonstop since the storm began,” Mayor Warren added. “These
jobs are not easy, and I hope all of our residents join me in expressing a
tremendous gratitude to those out braving the storm.”
City crews are continuing to treat the roads, and
residents are asked to adhere to alternate side parking restrictions.
Mayor Warren urges residents to review the following cold
weather tips from the Red Cross: www.redcross.org/about-us/news-and-events/news/Cold-Weather-Calls-for-Special-Safety-Steps.html
Also, the Rochester Fire Department asks that people use
caution while heating their homes. Do not leave open flames unattended, clear
heating vents, and keep space heaters at least 3 feet from flammable objects.
