City of Rochester
News Release
(Sunday, January 20, 2019) – With more snow accumulating
and temperatures dropping, City of Rochester snow-fighters are continuing to
work around the clock, currently completing a third pass of Rochester’s
residential streets.
“I would like to thank all the hard-working men and women
who are braving the cold to keep our streets clear and our families safe, along
with our first responders who are out responding to calls,” Mayor Warren said.
“I would also like to thank our residents to help us help you by adhering to
alternate side parking regulations and giving plows plenty of space to do their
jobs. Myself and my team will continue to monitor operations to ensure the
safety of our residents.”
About 200 pieces of equipment, including sidewalk plows
and repurposed refuse trucks, are currently out on the roads, and will maintain
a continual presence on the main roads. Track their progress by using the
Plowtrax app, www.cityofrochester.gov/plowtrax,
and call 311 to report problems with snow accumulation on streets and
sidewalks.
As temperatures drop, Mayor Warren reminds residents to
continue to use caution on the roads and while shoveling and heating their
homes. Please keep high efficiency furnace and water heater vents clear and
don’t leave open flames or space heaters unattended.
The Red Cross offers the following tips for dealing with
freezing temperatures: www.redcross.org/about-us/news-and-events/news/Cold-Weather-Calls-for-Special-Safety-Steps.html
Residents are reminded to keep their sidewalks and fire
hydrants clear and to bring pets inside.
Shoveling or plowing snow from private property onto
public sidewalks and streets is illegal.
