Domestic Partnership

**PLEASE NOTE:  The Clerk's Licensing Office is currently undergoing renovations.  Beginning Monday, April 15, 2024, appointments will be required to apply for domestic partnerships until further notice.  Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Please call (585) 428-6617 to schedule an appointment. 

Definition and Purpose

Persons eighteen years or older who are financially co-dependent; not married to, separated, or in a domestic partnership with another person; have been living together for at least six months; and meet other requirements (those previously in a domestic partnership,  must enter a six month waiting period before applying for another one), may apply for a Domestic Partnership.

Domestic Partnerships are often used to establish health insurance coverage. The City will provide a formal certificate.

Persons interested in completing an application for a domestic partnership will need to have a current government-issued I.D., as well as a major bill or lease agreement that provides proof that both parties reside at the same address.

Applications are accepted at City Hall, 30 Church St., Room 100A, Monday - Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

 

Fees

Domestic Partnership: $75
Replacement copy of the certificate: $10
Termination of a Partnership: $75 (certain requirements must be met)
