Access to Collections

 In order to "Access The Past" at the Archives, you must file a Records Access Application, with a specific description of the records you would like to see.

Records Access Applications for research are filed with the Bureau of Communications at City Hall or available on-line  here . However, genealogical records may be accessed directly by calling the Municipal Archives on 414 Andrews St, Rochester, New York, 14604 at 585-428-7331 and booking an appointment. There is a 25-cent per page fee for each copy of records you request, The charge for historical photographs depends upon the medium and size of the picture requested.

Once your approval has been granted, (usually within five days), call the Records Center to make an appointment to view the records. Unfortunately, due to a small staff, we cannot accept visitors on a walk-in basis.

The City of Rochester's Municipal Archives and the Monroe County Library, Local History Division at 115 South Ave., Rochester, New York, are collaborating to make historical documents from their collection more available.
