Central Library Release

(June 10, 2009) - The Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County will host “From Clinton’s Ditch to the Barge Canal System: A Brief History of the Erie Canal in the Rochester Region and the New Initiatives for the Future.” Come celebrate “Rochester’s Rich History” Sunday, June 21, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. in the Kate Gleason Auditorium located in the Bausch and Lomb Public Library building 115 South Ave.

Tom X. Grasso, President of the Canal Society for New York State will detail how the Erie Canal made Rochester a boomtown in the 1800s and how it may bring economic opportunities to the Rochester area in the future.

Rediscover Rochester's past and envision the future opportunities for our canals by viewing the Canal Society of New York's display of maps, unique historical artifacts, books and engineering drawings on display on the 3rd floor of the Bausch and Lomb Building of the Central Library during the month of June.
