News Release

(July 29, 2009) - Rusted Root will perform at this week’s free Party in the Park!, Thursday, July 30, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Riverside Festival Site, Court Street and Exchange Boulevard. Rusted Root, set to take the stage at 8 p.m., has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide. Formed in Pittsburgh by singer/guitarist Glabicki in the early ‘90s, Rusted Root’s worldly style quickly charmed fans of roots music and world rock.

After debuting in 1992 with the self released “Cruel Sun,” Rusted Root signed with Mercury Records and released the 1994 platinum selling breakthrough “When I Woke,” which featured the hit songs “Send Me On My Way,” “Ecstasy” and “Martyr.” Not long after, the band scored on tours with Toad the Wet Sprocket, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, HORDE Festival and, perhaps most notably, the highly coveted support role on the landmark Jimmy Page/Robert Plant reunion tour.

“Send Me On My Way” was used on the soundtracks of “Matilda” and “Ice Age” and Rusted Root’s music has appeared on the television shows “Party of Five” and “Homicide.”

The hard-touring Rusted Root returned in 1996 with Remember, which was followed by 1998’s Rusted Root. Following some time off, the band re-emerged in 2002 with Welcome To My Party. After leaving Mercury/Island Def Jam Records the band’s sixth album, Rusted Root Live, was released in 2004.

Special guest Danielia Cotton will perform at 6:15 p.m. Danielia’s natural gift – raw, searing vocal chops combined with a deep, buttery tone – draws from the two different rich traditions that she absorbed early in her youth. On the one hand, she couldn’t get enough of what her friends and neighbors were listening to: AC/DC, Zeppelin, the Stones. On the other, she was her mother’s girl: daughter of a jazz singer and member of the church gospel choir, grooving to Mavis Staples, Etta James, Billie and Ella.

Radio stations across the country appreciated Danielia’s unique rock talent. After Danielia released her first studio album, 2005’s Small White Town (Hipshake Records), WXPN/Philadelphia and home of the nationally syndicated World Café named her “Artist To Watch” in 2005, slotted the album’s soulful single, “It’s Only Life” into heavy rotation, and featured her on their HD network broadcast of “On Stage at World Café Live.” WXRT in Chicago featured Danielia on New Year’s Eve, where she brought down the house in a live performance broadcast by ABC.

Samuel Ventura will also perform at 5:30 p.m. as part of the 95.1 THE FOX local band competition. He delivers doses of acoustic folk-pop, rock and roll, modern reggae, and punk rock, and often all in the same song.

To accommodate a hungry after-work crowd, a wide selection of food is available including: spring rolls, wraps, Cajun, barbeque sundaes, salads, Abbott’s Frozen Custard and Zweigle’s hots.

Patrons may not bring food or beverages (with the exception of one sealed bottle of water) into the concerts. For the comfort and safety of everyone, patrons are also asked to leave their bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates and pets at home. The City has a "No Chairs" policy at the site for the safety of patrons.  Bleachers will be provided.  Ample on-street parking is available and nearby parking garages including the Court Street Garage at the corner of South Avenue and Court Street, Crossroads Garage at 69 Andrews St. and at the Sister Cities Garage, 28 S. Fitzhugh St, will be open.

This extraordinary lineup of entertainment is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Clear Channel (all seven stations: 95.1 The FOX; 106.7 KISS–FM; 102.3 SUNNY FM; 100.5 The Drive; WHAM 1180; Sports Radio 1280; COUNTRY 107.3), Democrat and Chronicle, Heineken, Newcastle Ale, Twisted Tea, the New York State Council on the Arts, Airtran and PC Innovations.
