Yoga Studio Bent on Success in the South Wedge

(Thursday, August 6, 2009) - The City’s Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada officially welcomed new business owners to the thriving South Wedge neighborhood today. Commissioner Carballada joined owner Michael Insel and Tru Yoga’s managers, Catherine Trimbur, Sara-Folit-Weinberg and Amanda Tavelaris for the grand re-opening of Tru Yoga -- located at 131 Gregory St. -- saving the South Wedge area’s only yogo studio. Tru Yoga provides a welcoming, affordable and intimate environment for people to learn and practice yoga with regular yoga classes seven days per week in addition to Pilates/yoga mix classes.

Through the new studio, Mr. Insel and the staff at Tru Yoga are committed to building relationships with community members and neighboring businesses, as well as expanding the message of the benefits of yoga and improving the well-being of its participants. In order to provide opportunities for those who would not have had access to yoga instruction, Tru Yoga offers discounted community yoga classes and also provides classes for the women’s groups at the St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Health Center.

Desiring to continue the tradition of providing a supportive, community atmosphere, Mr. Insel and his partners assumed operation of Tru Yoga from its previous operators in January, 2009, saving and creating instructor positions and management jobs. Tru Yoga has five instructors and plans to increase their number of classes and discounted community classes.

“Tru Yoga is an exciting addition to the unique South Wedge area,” said Commissioner Carballada. “We are pleased and grateful that Mr. Insel and his partners chose to keep this studio here in our City.”

“We believe a yoga studio complements the area’s businesses and community members,” said Insel. “We offer services which are not otherwise available and this particular site is ideal because the building owners were very supportive of our vision.”
