News Release

(August 25, 2009) - The Friends of the Public Market announced today that the 5th Annual Artist Row Art Fair, a celebration of art and community, will be held on Sunday, September 20, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Rochester Public Market, 280 N. Union Street.

This year’s event  will feature more than 170 local artists and artisans, as well as live music and dance performances, including jazz, blues, gospel, acoustic and more. Market vendors will be open serving food and beverages.

In addition, local arts and community organizations will participate by staffing information and outreach booths. Admission and parking are free.

“When we began Artist Row in 2005, we saw the Public Market as our community’s natural gathering place,” said Mary Lou Lawson, member of Friends of the Public Market. “Every year Artist Row has grown, drawing a larger and more diverse following. Artist Row has become a favorite for patrons, as well as artists, who tell us they enjoy very brisk sales throughout the daylong event.”

“We are grateful for the continuing support the Friends provide to the Market. This event is a testament to their commitment to expanding the usage and audience at the  Market, “ said Charles Reaves, Commissioner of Recreation and Youth Services for the City. “This show also provides an affordable venue for emerging and established artisans in our community.”

Artist Row was founded in 2005 by the Friends of the Public Market, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, with support from the City of Rochester. Artist Row has expanded each year, increasing the number of participating local artists and drawing increasingly larger crowds. Last year’s Artist Row, which featured 168 artists and artisans, drew over 7,000 people. For more information and application forms, call the Market at 428-6907 or go to www.marketfriends.org.
