Rochester City Council Meetings Will Broadcast Live on the Internet

The Rochester City Council’s monthly meetings will now be broadcast live on the Internet, beginning with today’s 8:00 p.m. meeting (Tuesday, September 8).  The entire meeting will be streamed live on the City’s web page.  Interested persons will be able to access the stream from a link located on the City’s home page, www.cityofrochester.gov, or directly at www.cityofrochester.gov/webcast.  Council meetings are generally held at 8:00 p.m. one Tuesday each month.

In addition to the monthly Council meetings, Council Committee meetings will also be streamed live.  Committee meetings are generally held at 4:00 p.m. on the Thursday afternoon immediately preceding the regularly scheduled Tuesday Council meeting.

The decision to institute live streaming is part of a major initiative begun by the Council last year to provide residents with a first-hand look at the inner-workings of the City’s legislative body.  In January 2008, the Council began broadcasting its meetings live on the City’s cable government access channel, City 12.  Later that year in September, Committee meetings also began to air live on City 12.

In addition to these broadcasts, major printed documents related to Council’s sessions are currently available on the Internet, including meeting agendas, legislation being considered by the Council (both current and prior legislation adopted since January, 2009) and the entire volumes of the Proceedings of Council from 2000 through 2008.

In addition to watching the meetings live on the web, an archive will be established on the City’s website to allow for viewing of previously streamed Committee and Council meetings.
