2009 New Year's Eve Celebration
Start the evening off with free ice skating at Manhattan Square Park, 353 Court St. at 6 p.m. with a late evening open skate session 9 - 11 p.m. Limited quantity of skates available for rental at $3 per session.Music by Beal's Rock and Roll Review, festive lighting, and refreshments for sale.
Then head over to the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, 123 E. Main St. for three hours of free family-themed entertainment. Activities include a Family DJ Dance Party hosted by Jimmy C's Music Machine, giant inflatable rides, carnival games, free photo booth opportunities, caricature drawings, facepainting, air brush tattoos, clown, magician, stilt walker and balloon sculpture! Refreshments will be available for purchase (Hot dogs, Nachos, Popcorn, Mozzarella Sticks, Pretzels, Soda, Bottled water, Coffee, Hot chocolate and bar with alcoholic beverages). Visitors will also be encouraged to take part in a "kazoofest" with Camp Good Days and Special Times.
At 9:30 p.m., Mayor Duffy will welcome everyone at the Convention Center and move the party outside to watch the exterior elevator of the First Federal Buildling rise to its top floor to signal the start of the Big Wish Fire Ceremony. The ceremony will be accompanied by a ground fireworks display (best viewed from the Main St. Bridge).
Then at 10 p.m., treat yourself to a spectacular aerial fireworks display (best viewed from the Main St. Bridge).
