Injured Officer Recognized on 'America's Most Wanted'

Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio has been nominated in “America’s Most Wanted” All Star Contest.  AmericasMostWanted

First responders from around the country are nominated for the dedicated work they do to protect and serve the public.  Officer DiPonzio’s picture and bio is online at www.amw.com/allstar, where the public can cast their ballots for him. Voters will select eight weekly finalists who will each be profiled on “America’s Most Wanted.”  Online votes will determine the grand-prize winner, who will be announced by host John Walsh at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series All-Star Race in Charlotte, NC.

Officer Anthony DiPonzio was shot in the back of the head on Jan. 31,  2009 while responding to a call on Dayton Street.  As he continues his recovery, he has visited many school children and community groups to talk about his experience and express his gratitude for the outpouring of support he and his family have received from the community.

After hearing about the nomination, Officer DiPonzio said, “I am truly honored and humbled to even be considered for such an award.”

DiPonzio-PortraitCommander Jeff Clark, Officer Diponzio’s Commanding Officer, said: “This young officer deserves everything he gets. The dedication, perseverance and resilience this young man and his family have shown throughout this incident is simply astounding.”
