Swimming Lessons

Enjoy the water, learn to swim!Boys in Genesee Valley Park pool.

The City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation encourages all city youth and adults to become skilled swimmers and seize the opportunity to enjoy the water.  

Through its Swim Academy, the City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation offers free youth swim lessons throughout the year. Adult lessons are sometimes offered as well, as is Lifeguarding Training each spring (call 428-7888 or 428-7456 for more information).  

Lifeguarding Prep Class

This program allows aspiring lifeguards to build their swimming skills in preparation for lifeguarding classes which begin in March. Classes begin on Tuesday December 2 and run every Tuesday till February 23

Class Schedules: 

High School guard class - March 3rd - April 30th Tuesday & Thursday 6:30pm-9:30pm

Week Long guard class - May 11th - May 16th Monday-Friday 5:30pm-9:30pm & Saturday 10am-3pm

Recertifcation Class #1 - May 19th - May21st Tuesday-Thursday 6:30pm-9:30pm

Recertification Class #2 - May 26th - May 28th Tuesday-Thursday 6:30pm-9:30pm


Free Swim Lessons

Summer Swim Academy
The Summer Swim Academy offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-18, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advanced. Half-hour daytime lesson times vary between 9:30 a.m.-noon, based on skill levels and enrollment. Evening sessions run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Lessons are conducted at several indoor and outdoor pools around the city.
