Organizers of Cardboard City event, a service-learning project designed to build awareness in the community about runaway and homeless issues, ask community members and organizations for donations to help the area’s homeless. For Cardboard City, participating City and county youth create cardboard shelters and spend the night in them; in addition, agencies that serve runaway and homeless youth share information on site about their services. Other youth-serving agencies facilitate youth-led workshops to give participants a better understanding of the realities of runaway and homeless experiences.
