How It Works

The Coalition is comprised of girls groups that meet regularly with female recreation center staff advisors. In addition to weekly meetings at their centers, members of each girls group come together once a month for “Girls Night Out” girl-focused programming that reflects their needs and interests. Girls Coalition also sponsors several special events and field trips throughout the year in addition to monthly programming.

The program also provides opportunities for networking and support among female youth workers who work with girls. Girls Coalition advisors meet with other program staff once a month for reflection, planning, and professional development. These meetings help to support advisors as they facilitate successful girls-only programs.

The coalition is a partnership between the City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation and Nazareth College’s Community Youth Development program, which allows girls who participate to become familiar with and comfortable on a college campus and network with college students of color.

Past Events include:

  • Brunch and Dialogue with Miss New York 2011 Kaitlin Monte
  • Girls Gathering youth conference
  • Field trip to Canandaigua Lake
  • Overnight Retreat at Nazareth College
  • Voices of Experience
