News Release
(Wednesday, June 13, 2012) — After a successful first week, Party in the Park welcomes Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers with special guest Van Ghost.
Party in the Park will take place every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 9 at the Riverside Festival Site on the corner of Court and Exchange streets. The popular outdoor concert brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.
Hornsby’s long-time band the Noisemakers includes bassist J.V. Collier; keyboardist/organist John “JT” Thomas; saxophonist/flutist Bobby Read; guitarist/mandolin player Doug Derryberry; and drummer Sonny Emory.
Special guest Van Ghost hails from Chicago and will open with classic rock and gritty Americana.
The Rochester-based, four-piece band Amanda Lee Peers & The Driftwood Sailors will be the first band to take the stage. The group won the Rock Star Rivalry local band competition hosted by radio station 95.1 The BREW. The contest gives groups a chance to open for a headlining act. Bands can submit their music throughout the registration period, which runs weekly through July 18. A panel of judges made up of the BREW and the Drive radio personnel select the winning bands.
Admission is $2 and children under 12 are free. Parking is available on-street and at nearby parking garages, including the Court Street Garage at the corner of South Avenue and Court Street and at the Sister Cities Garage, 28 S. Fitzhugh St.
