News Release - Red Light Ticket Violators Encouraged to Pay Fines Prior to Filing of Judgments

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012) – Vehicle owners with outstanding red light-tickets are encouraged to pay their fines as soon as possible to avoid the judgment and collections process. Beginning Sept. 10, judgments will be filed against thousands of vehicle owners who have not paid their tickets for more than 90 days.

Those with outstanding fines may pay in one of three ways:

Ticket number or license plate number must be readily available.

Vehicle owners with red light law violations have been sent three notices to date to the address on file with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles; the final notice warned them of impending judgment and referral to collections.

Rochester plans to use Photo Enforcement at as many as 50 intersections as part of an ongoing effort to improve public safety by reducing traffic accidents. To date, 29 intersections have been equipped with red light cameras.

More information on the red light camera traffic safety program can be found at www.cityofrochester.gov/redlight.
