General Information

The Monroe County Office Building has a long and rich history of rebuilding and transformation. It all started when a courthouse costing $6,700 was built in 1822, which was one year after the birth of Monroe County. After a large growth in the community a new larger courthouse was built costing $76,000. On Independence day in 1894, $881,000 later, the four-story granite and marble courthouse was complete. Later in 1924 it was decided to construct a rear addition to the building making the total cost amount $1,201,000.
