City Website Goes Mobile!

City Launches Mobile Site

Our website is now available on a mobile platform! The optimized site makes it easy and convenient to access City web information and services from a smartphone. The mobile platform automatically displays on smartphones when you visit the City's site. Content displays in a mobile-friendly format, showing text and graphics in a vertical layout that is easier to manipulate on a touch screen. Some content that is hosted on external sites will display in the usual desktop frame.

What You Can Find on the Mobile Site

The City's popular "Services" page has been otpimized for mobile viewing. Services can be found in a few ways, including an A-Z listing, by topic, by task, or by a text search. Other top content is also easily accessible on the mobile site. The Public Market, projects and initiatives, and pet adoption pages are examples of highly visited pages that are now easy to find on the mobile site.

The rotating images on the mobile site's home page showcase the beauty and vitality of Rochester by featuring seasonal information on services, events, and programs.

Social media icons at the bottom of every page enable users to share information quickly and easily with friends and family.

"What's Nearby?" Built-in App

The mobile platform also includes a built-in “What’s Nearby?” lifestyle application, which serves as a mobile guide to the locations of City facilities and events. There's no need to download this feature from an app store since it's built right into our mobile interface.

Using a phone’s GPS mechanism, "What's Nearby?" provides a list of City facilities and events and other government buildings in relation to the user’s location. One tap of a “Get Directions” button provides driving or walking directions from the smartphone to the selected event or facility. The “Call” button immediately connects the user to the primary contact at the facility or event.

The types of entries available on the “What’s Nearby? list cover a wide range of customer experiences. They include City Hall, Neighborhood Service Centers, libraries, parks, recreation centers, fire houses, playgrounds, boating opportunities and entry points to the City’s trail network. The application also provides the user’s geographical relation to events from the City Events Calendar, including municipal meetings, library programs and City-sponsored entertainment events.
