City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, July 21, 2011) — The City of Rochester Department of Finance has been awarded The 2011 Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its preparation of Rochester’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This marks the 27th consecutive year that the City has received the award — the highest level of professional recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The certificate recognizes the excellence of the City’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending June 20, 2010. The certificate standards include the demonstration of a “spirit of transparency and full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story. The entire financial report may be viewed at www.cityofrochester.gov.

“Congratulations to the entire team in the City’s Finance Department, under the superior leadership of Director Brian Roulin,” said Mayor Thomas Richards. “Careful stewardship of our taxpayers’ dollars is of top priority and this recognition of excellence is proof of that stewardship.”

“I want to thank the Government Finance Officers Association for this prestigious honor, which recognizes the diligent work of our professional staff,” said Finance Director Brian Roulin, whose office is lined with years of the GFOA awards.

“I am honored to work with such dedicated men and women who go over and above in their efforts to develop a clear, comprehensive annual financial report.”

The GFOA, a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 14,000 government finance professionals, established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program (CAFR Program) in 1945.
