(Monday, Nov. 19, 2012) - The City of Rochester’s Department of Recreation and Youth Services has been recognized with several awards by the Genesee Valley Recreation and Park Society for its recreational, promotional and cultural programs.

The City was presented with an Exceptional Program Award for the “Food Truck Rodeo,” an Outstanding Facility Awards for the “Public Market and Rails to Trails,” program, a Special Publications Award for its “River Romance” booklet and a Volunteerism Award for logistic support provided to the Southwest Colts—a Western New York Pop Warner Football team.

“Congratulations to Commissioner Luis Burgos and the entire team at the Department of Recreation and Youth Services for these well deserved honors. These prestigious awards affirm the remarkable service and excellent programs provided by the department,” said Mayor Thomas S. Richards. “The Genesee Valley Recreation and Park Society recognize what many of us already know— Rochester offers some of the greatest recreational and cultural amenities of any city in America.”

The Genesee Valley Recreation and Park Society is a regional branch of the New York State Recreation and Park Society--a professional society which promotes quality recreation and park opportunities for all citizens through education, training, technical assistance and support to local, state-wide and federal recreation and park providers.
