City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, Nov. 30, 2012) — Mayor Thomas S. Richards, Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada and Councilmember Elaine Spaull today joined Larry Glazer, Chief Executive Officer of Buckingham Properties, and the Buckingham Properties team to celebrate the opening of their new corporate office at 259 Alexander St. in Alexander Park.

“Larry Glazer is resourceful, experienced and committed to Rochester. He is a significant partner in moving our city forward,” said Mayor Richards.  “Larry has such a positive vision to repurpose many of our existing buildings and to construct many new ones.”

The offices of Buckingham Properties were previously located at 1 South Washington St. Glazer desired a location in close proximity to their current Alexander Park development. The $1.4 million office project involved the purchase of the building, the gutting and renovation of the interior and exterior façade improvements. Relocating to the space will be 39 current employees, and the firm anticipates adding four positions in the future.

“We are delighted that our new home is located right in Alexander Park,” said Glazer.  “The neighborhood is dramatically changing – and we look forward to its continued growth and success.”

Buckingham Properties renovated 7,573 square feet of office space to meet LEED Silver standards, adding such green elements as solar panels on the roof and unique building materials such as reclaimed bowling alley wood.

The entire Alexander Park development was purchased by Alexander Realty LLC (Buckingham Properties) in 2006. With assistance from a Restore NY Grant, Buckingham completed demolition of the buildings located at the northern half of the site, creating seven acres of land available for new construction development.

Existing buildings at the southern half of the site were renovated for 250,000 square feet of medical and health related facilities and are fully leased. New construction projects completed at the southern end of the site include a Canandaigua Bank Branch and 70,000 square feet of offices for Earthlink.

Buckingham is currently developing plans for the remaining parcels on the site and expects construction development to include market-rate rental housing, retail, office and parking. The firm’s total investment upon completion of the entire campus is expected to be more than $83 million.

Founded in 1970, Buckingham Properties LLC is the largest and most diverse real estate development and property management company in the Rochester area. The company currently owns and manages more than 40 properties comprising over 8.5 million square feet of rental space in the Greater Rochester region.
