News Release

(Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013) – The City of Rochester, the Edgerton Model Railroad Club and the Upstate New York Chapter of the Train Collectors Association are pleased to invite the public to attend a train meet and tour of the famous Edgerton Model Railroad Room on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Edgerton Community Center, 41 Backus St.

The meet and tour is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free for children ages 11 and younger as well as members of the Train Collectors Association. General admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and $3.00 for youth ages 12 through 17.

The historic model train room at Edgerton was opened in October 1950, at the tail end of Rochester’s and America's bustling train travel era. The dazzling displays and hand-painted backdrops depict Rochester and many of its natural and built landmarks, in all four seasons. The magic and mystique of trains persists for many people, making the Edgerton Model Railroad Room a must-see for railroad enthusiasts and anyone curious about Rochester’s rich and unique history.

The Edgerton Model Railroad Club is a group of volunteers working to preserve, repair and enhance the seasonal layouts of the model. To learn more about the club, call the Edgerton Community Center at 428-6769 or visit www.edgertonmodelrailroadclub.com. The Train Collectors Association’s mission is to preserve an important segment of history by fostering an appreciation of model and scale trains and promoting the enjoyment of collecting and operating toy trains.
