(Friday, June 21, 2013) – The City Department of Neighborhood and Business Development will host a public meeting Wednesday to gather community input to update the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP), which guides waterfront development in the city.
The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 in the City Council Chambers of City Hall, 30 Church St. The “open house” meeting format will include display materials covering four waterfront topics: History, vision, issues and priorities. Participants will be asked to provide comment on how the city’s waterfront should be developed and preserved and how public resources should be prioritized.
The LWRP was first adopted in 1990 and is the official statement of land use and development policy for the city’s waterfront area. The LWRP update is being prepared by the Bureau of Planning and Zoning in cooperation with the New York State Department of State with funds provided under Title 11 of the NYS Environmental Protection Fund. It is anticipated that the LWRP Update will be completed by December, 2014.
The update will include all of the city’s waterfront areas along Lake Ontario, the Genesee River and the Erie Canal. The update will also identify new waterfront policies and recommendations that will serve as a guide for future development and infrastructure improvements and will help leverage potential funding opportunities.
