News Release - Mayor Thomas S. Richards to Introduce School of the Arts Senior Jazz Ensemble on Jazz Street Stage, June 29

(Friday, June 28, 2013) — Mayor Thomas S. Richards and Jennifer Leonard, President & CEO, Rochester Area Community Foundation (RACF), will welcome and introduce members of the School of the Arts (SOTA) Senior Jazz Ensemble and Director Doug Stone, who will perform on the Jazz Street Stage, East Avenue and Gibbs Street, Saturday, June 29 from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m. during the Rochester Xerox International Jazz Festival.

“It is an honor to present this outstanding group of students to our Jazz Fest audience,” said Mayor Richards, “Our city is proud of the accomplishments of these fine musicians and of the teachers who have prepared them so professionally.”

The group will perform Moten Swing by Bennie and Buster Moten; Que Pasa by Ralph Gingery; Shiny Stockings by Frank Foster and What Goes Around by The Rebirth Jazz Band.

“The SOTA Senior Jazz Ensemble is comprised of award-winning student musicians whose talents represent SOTA’s mission of inspiring student achievement in academic and artistic endeavors, while emphasizing the importance of interpersonal human values,” said Adele Fico, School of the Arts, Arts Center Director. “The students are thrilled to be a part of the Jazz Festival.”

The City of Rochester and the Rochester Area Community Foundation are sponsors of the three free outdoor jazz stages located along East Avenue at Gibbs Street, Chestnut Street and Alexander Street.
