News Release- Mayor Thomas S. Richards Announces Downtown Spectacular on Independence Day Featuring Music, Fireworks, Fun

(Wednesday, June 26, 2013) – Mayor Richards today announced a special, twofold spectacular when Downtown goes live on the Fourth of July for the City’s Independence Day celebration. Dazzling fireworks will punctuate the night sky from 10 to 10:20 p.m. for revelers to observe from numerous locations, including two concert sites. “Downtown Rochester is the perfect gathering place to celebrate Independence Day,” said Mayor Richards. “The spectacular fireworks, wonderful music, spirited crowds and concert locations will combine to make July 4th one of the most memorable events of the year and making us proud to be a part of this great American city.”

The world-renowned Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will again be featured on the Main Street Bridge and the popular Windstream Party in the Park concert will headline Americana soul band Dawes at its Riverside Festival Site on the corner of Court and Exchange Streets. The Party in the Park concert begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 10 p.m. Intro acts by Doug Paisley and Violet Mary will join Dawes for the evening at the Riverside location.

Admission to Party in the Park is $2 and children under 12 are free. An expanded seating area is offered for an additional $3 for all ages and may be purchased at the gate. No chairs may be brought into the Riverside location. Food trucks will be on site. On the Main Street Bridge free festivities start at 7:30 p.m. with a jazz performance by the Jimmie Highsmith Experience featuring vocalist Fatima. The RPO will follow from 9 to 10:20 p.m with a performance of patriotic favorites. Fireworks choreographed to RPO renditions launch at 10 p.m. Attendees on the Main Street Bridge event may bring chairs or blankets for viewing of the fireworks show and concerts. Limited food and beverages will be available for purchase on Main Street. Pets are not permitted at City July 4 Downtown festivities.

The recommended viewing areas for the fireworks show are: the Main Street Bridge, the Broad Street Bridge, Chestnut Street near the Washington Square Garage, the Party in the Park concert site and streets surrounding those areas.

Free parking is available at City-owned parking garages for all Downtown July 4 activities: Court Street, 194 Court St.; South Avenue, 39 Stone St.; Sister Cities, 28 S. Fitzhugh St., and Washington Square, 111 Woodbury Blvd.

Any cancelations due to weather will be broadcast from Entercom radio stations WBEE, The Buzz, 98 PXY and WCMF.
