City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, Nov. 1, 2013) –  Mayor Thomas S. Richards announced today that the City of Rochester has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2012 from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition given by the GFOA in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

This is the 29th consecutive year that the City has received this distinction, starting with the fiscal year that ended in June, 1984.

“This prestigious award--given to local governments only after a stringent review process--represents a significant accomplishment by the City’s Department of Finance,” said Mayor Richards. “It is a tribute to the City’s standards of excellence and to the dedication and professionalism of our Finance and Budget Department staff who work so diligently everyday at City Hall.”

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada established the financial reporting award program to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles by preparing comprehensive annual financial reports in the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
