Mayor Warren Begins City’s 2014-15 Fiscal Year Budget Planning Process

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, January 17, 2014) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren kicked off the City’s 2014-15 fiscal year budget planning process today, meeting with department heads and other City staff who are involved in the budget preparation process.

“These are historic times for our nation, state and city, and we have the privilege to be in leadership roles during this time,” Mayor Warren said as she urged the City team to be creative in its approach to finding efficiencies and new revenues.

In her talk, Mayor Warren asked her staff to believe in the City and to focus on the priorities of improving neighborhoods, developing the workforce, improving public safety and creating educational opportunities.

The City is struggling to close a budget gap of $27.9 million in the upcoming fiscal year. The gap projection is down from a May estimate of $37.5 million, largely due to early decisions to reduce capital expenditures.

The Mayor will submit a budget to City Council on May 16.
