Rochester, NY January 31, 2014 – Take Your Child to the Library Day, a grassroots event that was established two years ago by Nadine Lipman, the retired Head of Children's Services at the Waterford (CT) Public Library, has become a national community campaign dedicated to promote the love of reading at an early age and to bring more children into their local libraries. There are 22 libraries of the Monroe County Library System who will participate in local programming on Saturday, February 1.

At the Central Library, the day begins at 10 am with crafting fun in the Children’s Center on the 2nd Floor of the Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building, 115 South Avenue. Crafting supplies are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis.

After creating a one-of-kind crafting masterpiece, kids will experience a fun-filled scavenger hunt exploring the two building Central Library campus. Children and their families will explore other library departments to look for some of your favorite children’s book characters hidden in plain sight. Anyone finding all the missing characters on their passport will win a prize!  Additionally, children who sign up for a library card for the first time on Take Your Child to the Library Day will also receive a special prize.

At 2 pm, participants can get a front row seat in the Secret Room to experience the mind-blowing magic of Ted Burzynski. All the activities for Take Your Child to the Library Day are family oriented and appropriate for all ages.

The national Take Your Child to the Library project represents the collaboration and efforts of a diverse group of library supporters
