Description: | Live performance by Robert Djed Snead. Step back in time to July 1853 to witness the Rev. J.W. Loguen reporting to his Syracuse congregation about the National Colored Convention he attended in Rochester the week before. Loguen will discuss his work as an abolitionist and the concerns raised by convention participants, including the effects of the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law and the recent Jerry rescue, in which a crowd was able to free a former slave who had been arrested under the act. The performance will be followed by a question and answer session.
