(Thursday, April 24, 2014) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren, Department of Recreation and Youth Services Commissioner Marisol O. Ramos-Lopez, City Council President Loretta C. Scott and Councilmembers Elaine Spaull and Michael Patterson announced the 2014 Summer of Fun at the Rochester Public Market events schedule which includes Bands on the Bricks, Food Truck Rodeos, Flower City Days at the Market and new addition, the Flour City Brewer’s Fest.

“The Public Market has been a Rochester treasure for generations as a source for fresh, local food and I am happy to expand its offerings,” said Mayor Warren. “We owe a great deal of thanks to the Market’s many patrons and community partners for helping us grow to where it is today; and that is a regional draw for families to gather and celebrate.”

“The special events at the Market have really taken off,” said Commissioner Ramos-Lopez. “People have a great time when they come here, whether to shop or eat or watch a band. The Public Market has something for everyone to enjoy.”

For the first time, the Public Market will host the Flour City Brewer’s Fest, a celebration of the world’s finest craft beers with musical entertainment by the Tommy Burnett band, 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, August 22.

The Garage Sale Super Fleas at the Market is a picker’s paradise for bargain shoppers with more than 150 vendors selling everything from antiques to gently used clothing. Sales run on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting Sunday, April 27. Sales continue on the following dates: May 4; June 15, 22 and 29; July 6, 13, 20 and 27; August 3, 10, 17 and 24; September 7, 21 and 28 and October 5, 12 and 19.

Market-goers can experience “street food” from more than 40 of the best food trucks around Rochester at the Food Truck Rodeo. Along with the sensational local food, there will be music and brew. The first Rodeo of the season is scheduled for 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 30 and features musical guests Dan Schmit and the Shadows playing the blues. Rodeos continue all summer long on the last Wednesday of the month: May 28 with Music Guest Dang! playing honky-tonk tunes; June 25 with Out of the Blue playing reggae and rockabilly; July 30 with Fat City with R&B and swing; August 27 with Goodness playing contemporary music; September 24 with Hootn’ Anges country music; and Dog House playing classic rock on October 29.

Plant the vivid colors of summer with Flower City Days at the Market. Choose from an impressive selection of flowers, vegetables and everything needed to get a garden growing. Flower City Days at the Market are held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays, starting May 11 and continue May 18; May 25; June 1; June 8; as well as additional days during Memorial Day weekend: Friday, May 23; Sunday, May 25; and Monday, May 26.

Bands on Bricks is back will provide an eclectic mix of music at the Market. Local Latin musicians take the stage to help kick off the Puerto Rican Festival on Friday, July 11. Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad brings a night of reggae to the Market on Friday, July 18. Big Eyed Phish, a Dave Matthews Tribute band, and Donna the Buffalo returns on Friday, August 1. A final concert is scheduled for Friday August 8, with a band to be announced.

The Second Annual Gospel Jubilee slated is for 4 p.m., Sunday, July 27 hosted by Jasen Monroe and the Elim Sanctuary Choir. This free musical event brings the beautiful sounds of gospel music out of the churches and into the community. Choir groups from 12 faith organizations of all denominations will celebrate the rich diversity usually found at the Market.
