City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, May 19, 2014) – Mayor Lovely Warren will be a panelist at the American Federation of Children’s (ACF) Policy Summit this week. The AFC National Policy Summit is an annual conference bringing together policymakers, advocates, and leading business and media figures to celebrate school choice successes and discuss future challenges. It is the nation’s premiere event on educational choice and education reform around the country.

The conference, Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21 in Kissimmee FL, brings the educational choice community together to discuss the movement and share the successes of school choice throughout the country. The two-day summit will feature keynote speeches, panels and networking events all to advocate for educational choice and bring additional educational options to children nationwide.

On Wednesday, Mayor Warren will join Adrian Fenty, former Mayor of Washington, D.C. and Jason Kloth, Deputy Mayor of Education of Indianapolis for a panel titled #EdRevolution and Mayoral Leadership, moderated by the AFC’s Executive Council, Kevin P. Chavous.

“I am very pleased to have this opportunity to connect with national leaders who believe, as I do, that parents need more choices when it comes to educating their children,” said Mayor Warren. “There is more than one way to provide a sound education that gives our youth a fighting chance at life. I look forward to creating new pathways of engagement that could lead to more options for students in Rochester – as well as new partners for programs that are important to us, such as UPK, mitigating summer learning loss, afterschool education programs in our recreation centers, our library literacy aides program and our Beacon Schools initiative.”
