City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, July 8, 2014) – The City of Rochester is again partnering with the Rochester City School District, the Rochester Area Community Foundation, the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency and Foodlink to provide free breakfast and lunch to children 18 and under during the summer. Mayor Lovely A. Warren participated in the Summer Meals Kickoff Celebration today at Frontier Field to promote participation in the program.

“Many of our students benefit from the free meals available during the school year, so we are pleased to once again offer free breakfast and lunch at all City Recreation and Community Center sites all summer long,” said Mayor Warren. “Even though school is out, it’s important for our youth to have access to the same nutritious meals they’ve relied on throughout the year.”

More than 60 sites throughout the city will serve breakfast and lunch thanks to the support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program. Sites include City Recreation and Community Centers, community agencies, schools and churches. For details about the program, including a full list of locations and serving times, visit www.healthikids.org, www.cityofrochester.gov/summermeals, the City School District website at www.rcsdk12.org or by calling 428-7872 or the RCSD Office of School Food Service at 336-4118.

According to the RCSD, more than 80 percent of its students participate in the school-year federal free and reduced price food program.
