News Release - Seventh Windstream Party in the Park Features Dickey Betts and Great Southern

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, July 30, 2014) – Dickey Betts and Great Southern with special guest Dumpstaphunk will perform at Windstream Party in the Park on Thursday, July 31.

Every Thursday from 5 to 10 p.m. through Aug. 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Manhattan Square at the corner of Court and Chestnut Streets, the popular outdoor concert series brings more than 20 national and international music acts to Downtown Rochester.

Southern rock band Dickey Betts and Great Southern features the very same Dickey Betts who was one of the founding members of the Allman Brothers Band and who played alongside Tim McGraw at the 2005 Grammy Awards in a salute to the genre. The group is known for its exciting guitar riffs and road-seasoned vocals.

Dumpstaphunk is a funk band from New Orleans that features Ivan and Ian Neville, the next generation of the famous Neville brothers. The band’s sound is reminiscent of vintage funk greats like Sly & the Family Stone but also pushes forward into gospel, blues, secondline, R&B and rock and roll.

The Genesee Brewery Bowl Stage, a small secondary stage located in the amphitheatre area of the park, will feature local bands that will play each week during set breaks on the main stage. This week, Haewa takes the Genesee Brewery Bowl stage.

Food trucks and local beer will be on site for concert goers’ enjoyment and families can access the park’s playground. No chairs are allowed, but attendees are welcome to bring blankets.

General admission to Windstream Party in the Park is $5 and free for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased at the gate until 9:30 p.m., online at Ticketmaster.com with an associated service fee, or at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial with no service fee. Please note that concert goers must pay with cash if tickets are purchased at the gate.

Parking is available at nearby parking garages, including the Washington Square Garage, 111 Woodbury Boulevard; Court Street Garage, corner of South Avenue and Court Street; East End Garage, 475 E. Main Street; and HSBC Garage, 100 Chestnut Street (enter on Broad Street side). The Strong museum parking lot is also an option for a $7 fee beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the event and closing at 10:30 p.m. No tailgating is allowed in any of the garages or lots.

Windstream Party in the Park is sponsored by the City of Rochester with corporate support from Windstream, Alex and Ani, The Strong, Clear Channel Media + Entertainment, City Paper and North American Breweries.
