City of Rochester

News Release/Motorist Advisory

(Tuesday, August 26, 2014) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren will march in the annual Labor Day Parade, sponsored by the Rochester Labor Council, AFL CIO. The parade will take place at 6:30 p.m., Friday, August 29, stepping off from East Avenue and Lawrence Street.

Typically held on Labor Day Monday, this year’s parade will take place on the Friday before Labor Day in order to include the participation of the marching bands in town for the 50th Anniversary of the Drum Corps Associates’ World Championships. Also new this year is the parade’s evening start time and step-off location. Due to the 6:30 p.m. start time, the step off location has been moved to East Avenue and Lawrence Street so that the East Avenue and Alexander Street intersection can remain open.

More than 3,500 band corps members and their families will be staying in hotels and patronizing businesses in Downtown Rochester and the Rochester area this weekend.
