News Release

(Wednesday, October 8, 2014) - Mayor Lovely A. Warren and University of Rochester Vice President Peter Robinson announced today that the City of Rochester and the University of Rochester will host the Rochester Employment Training and Career Fair on Thursday, November 6, and Friday, November 7, at the Staybridge Suites Hotel, 1000 Genesee St. This is the second year for the free Employment Training and Career Fair--a result of continued collaboration between the City and the University to address the ongoing need for employment opportunities for minority city residents, a group that faces higher unemployment rates than non-minority residents and individuals living in the suburbs.

“A diverse workforce is not just a City of Rochester and University of Rochester goal,” said Mayor Warren. “Employers are eager to make sure their workforces better reflect the populations they serve and their participation in this event demonstrates a commitment to Rochester’s future. The City is proud to continue this dynamic partnership with the University of Rochester.”

“The University looks forward to continuing its successful partnership with the City of Rochester. Working together, this second-year collaboration will again create meaningful connections between city residents and local employers,” said University of Rochester Medical Center Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Peter Robinson. “The University is proud to join with the City and all of the employers participating in the Rochester Employment Training and Career Fair, to offer valuable training resources and provide new job opportunities for all of Rochester’s citizens, as part of our ongoing commitment to the community we serve.”

The first day, Thursday, November 6, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and feature workshops on improving employment skills for the new economy. Topics will cover such subjects as cover letters and resumes, job-search strategies and internships, civil-service job applications and testing, tips and strategies for successful interviews and how to prepare for a career fair.
