City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014) — Volunteers will gather at Rochester’s historic Mount Hope Cemetery from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 25, to participate in national Make a Difference Day. Members of such groups as Rochester AmericCorps, Citizen U, Downtown United Presbyterian Group and Newman Catholic Community have committed to help clean and beautify this historic landmark and more volunteers are welcome.

With almost 200 acres of land, Mount Hope is an active municipal cemetery that also serves as a park, arboretum and historic resource. Volunteers play a vital role in the maintenance of this special place and Make a Difference Day provides an excellent opportunity to make an impact in one day.

Make a Difference Day, started in 1992, is now the largest community service effort in the nation with over 3 million participants annually.

Volunteers will meet at the cemetery office at 1133 Mt. Hope Ave. and will be provided with gardening tools and gloves.

Volunteers are encouraged to register in advance to ensure enough supplies are provided. Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/mounthopeevents or call (585) 428-7999 to register.
