News Release

(Thursday, November 20, 2014) – A convoy of snow removal equipment and 17 of the City’s most seasoned snow fighting staff will depart for Buffalo tomorrow morning to assist Erie County and the City of Buffalo with their efforts to load and haul snow. The Rochester Fire Department’s structural collapse team of eight firefighters and a rescue truck left for Buffalo this afternoon.

The Governor’s Office of Emergency Management has requested that counties and municipalities provide assistance to the area.

“The City of Rochester is ready and able to provide assistance to our neighbors to the west,” said Norman Jones, Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Services. “The amount of snowfall seen in this event is unheard of and if we have the resources in terms of equipment and staff available, then we consider it our duty to help out. Residents can be assured that we are prepared to deal our own weather issues here in Rochester during this time.”

The Department of Environmental Services staff is expected to be deployed for 48 hours and the Fire Department staff is expecting to stay for 72 hours.

The City’s snow removal convoy will include front end loaders and tractor trailers, roll-off dumpster trucks, dump trucks, snow blowing Bobcats, 4 by 4 trucks with plows and trailers. The Fire Department truck is stocked with specialized structural collapse equipment.
