City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, November 26, 2014) – City Neighborhood and Business Development Deputy Commissioner Kathleen Washington, State Assemblyman Harry Bronson and New York State Senator Joseph Robach joined business owners Ed and Asa Mott at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of ButaPub, located at 315 Gregory Street, in the Historic German House.

“ButaPub Restaurant is a welcome addition to one of Rochester’s fastest developing and most eclectic commercial districts,” said Deputy Commissioner Washington. “On behalf of Mayor Warren and the City of Rochester, I want to welcome Ed and Asa Mott to the South Wedge Neighborhood and we wish them continued success.”

“ButaPub is an American pub with menu inspiration from Asia, a community gathering place for anyone who likes good food, good drink and a casual atmosphere,” said Ed Mott. “It’s comfortable enough to visit every day, but adventurous enough that guests will discover something new every time,” added Chef Asa Mott. Ed and Asa are father and son.

For the Motts, the location the Historic German House, which is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places, was an obvious choice as it has remained a community gathering point for nearly a century. “Creating energy around such a beloved location is an exciting endeavor, and the tightly knit South Wedge is one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods—with character as unique as its residents,” said Asa Mott.

ButaPub features a menu with comfortable dishes for any palette. Items such as Japanese ramen, Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and pork belly on house-made steamed buns share menu space with familiar burgers, wings and other pub favorites. The menu features one-of-a-kind creations from Chef Asa and his staff, showcasing the best of the region’s locally produced ingredients and feature house-made products wherever possible. ButaPub’s cocktail list is designed to match the food menu. The Motts hope their selection of barrel-aged cocktails, sake options and meticulously considered beer and wine from local brewers and beyond will appeal to every taste.

Chef Asa Mott has over 20 years of experience in the business, from starting out at a small-town diner in Medina, to working at some of the finest restaurants in the country. Most recently, Mott served as executive chef at Max Chophouse on Monroe Avenue.

The opening of ButaPub creates approximately 20 employees and the Motts hope to double that number in the future.

Business hours are as follows: Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
