News Release - City Invokes Parking Emergency on Selected Streets

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, February 18, 2015) – Mayor Lovely Warren has declared a parking emergency to facilitate snow removal operations for the following streets:
• Elmhurst Street
• Oxford Street
• Arnold Park
• Sanford Street
• Rundel Park
• Asbury Street

No parking will be allowed on these streets from noon on Thursday (February 19) to noon on Friday (February 20). Any vehicles remaining on these streets during this time period will be towed.
Additional Parking Emergencies on other streets will be announced later. The areas chosen for snow removal are prioritized based on the degree of difficulty they present to snow removal operations.

“Mayor Warren has instructed me to use every possible resource to open our streets in response to the historical snow accumulation we are dealing with this winter,” said Commissioner of Environmental Services Norman Jones. “This Parking Emergency allows us to remove large piles of snow from areas along the curbs of the streets that are typically most difficult to clear. We must do this before more snow accumulates. We will conduct several removal operations in the coming days, starting with those streets where high concentrations of parked vehicles present the greatest obstacle to snow removal.”

Free overnight parking for affected vehicles will be available at Washington Square, East End and Mortimer Street Garages from 6 p.m. on Thursday (February 19) to 8:30 a.m., Friday, February 20. Residents may also park during this period at Monroe High School, School Without Walls, #15, #23 and #35 Schools. Residents may also seek parking on surrounding streets outside of the Parking Emergency Area.

Residents of the impacted streets will be notified via telephone using “reverse 9-1-1 technology.”

Private snow plow contractors are reminded that it is a violation of City Code to place snow in the public right of way and it should instead be stored on site.
Residents are asked to cooperate with the City in its snow removal efforts by clearing fire hydrants and sidewalks.

Illegally parked and snowbound cars have been, and will continue to be, towed in other areas of the city. Motorists not in the affected streets should continue to observe normal parking restrictions and regulations.
